Skeletonisation has long been part of Vacheron Constantin’s decorative tradition, involving the reduction of a movement to its essential structure while preserving its functionality.
The present reference 43502, dating to circa 1996, is powered by the ultra-thin calibre 1120/1 automatic movement. In this example, the movement has been extensively openworked, exposing the gear train and oscillating weight while retaining the calibre’s underlying symmetry.
With no conventional dial, time is indicated solely by the hands, allowing the movement to dominate the design. The yellow gold case remains understated, placing emphasis on the architecture and finishing of the openworked calibre.
