CONDITION REPORT: Mint overall condition, all original and with very light signs of wear. A protective sticker was placed on the caseback to preserve the engraving.
Notes: According to the Omega Museum, the present watch was delivered to the Peruvian Air Force (FAP) on July 18, 1961.
In addition to this reference being very rare, this particular piece is a military issue for the Fuerza Aerea del Peru (Peruvian Air Force) produced 1961. This example comes complete with its original box, papers, guarantee certificate dated August 1961, hangtag with reference and serial number, and a letter from the distributor in Peru to the Peruvian Air Force colonel stating that 380 watches were being delivered with separate warranties numbered from 1000-1380 and that due to their confidence in the quality of Omega watches allows them to provide a special extended 2 year warranty. These never seen before documents and accessories coming with an FAP issued Omega is a testament to the importance of preserving history. A wonderful full set and a true collector dream.
This reference CK2998-3 is the last Speedmaster with the 2998 reference that was fitted with the lollipop chronograph hand and the first have a DO90 bezel. While the CK2998-1 & -2 had the black tachymeter ‘base 1000’ bezel, the CK2998-3 was the first Speedmaster with the new generation bezel where the scale begins at 500.
