DIAL: Black matte dial with beveled date aperture at 3 o’clock, tritium hour markers. Mercedes hour and pencil minutes hand, lollipop seconds. COMEX logo on white background on dial.

CASE: 40mm, stainless steel with black 60 min rotating bezel and acrylic glass with loupe for date at 3 o’clock.

MOVEMENT: Caliber 1575, Self-winding mechanical movement with 26 jewels

BRACELET: Rolex stainless steel Oyster fliplock 93150/580, Clasp Code VC (1977)

CONDITION REPORT: Excellent condition. The indexes have a stunning patina and matte surface is perfect. The original hands were relumed by the diver for visibility and a matching hand set was replaced on the watch since. Original hands are included.
The case is unpolished and pinholes are perfect and insert is very nice as well. Overall the nicest example of an extremely rare watch we have seen.

NOTES: Arguably the rarest among COMEX Rolex watches, only 60 pieces were estimated to have been produced of the 1680 COMEX. According to scholarship on these, they were intended for skin diving and training as they didn't have the helium escape valve for saturation diving. Also, these watches were rumored to have been sold and given to non-diver friends & suppliers of COMEX. This particular example came from the family of the original owner a diver that worked for COMEX from 1974 to 1982 in his 50's. Originally born in 1923, Gilles Petizon was 50 when he joined COMEX. He was part of the French resistance during WWII and kept a diary of all his adventures, a photocopy of this log is included with this fabulous set along with dive logs and his diving certification.
In addition, four original photos of the diver himself are in the set. To add to this, the watch comes with its original box, matching warranty, hangtag, booklet cover with sticker and chronometer tag.
