NOTES: The Day Date ‘President’ is one of the most iconic Rolexes and has a truly rich history. Introduced in the mid 1950’s, the Day Date quickly became popular and a symbol of success. It become even more famous in the 1960’s and known as the ‘President’s wristwatch’ following an ad campaign in the United States by Rolex as well as rumors that this was the wristwatch of choice for American presidents such as Roosevelt. We have seen that it was the choice of gift from Marilyn to Kennedy, with an inscription on the case back and we have often seen it in photos of Lyndon Johnson. The size of 36mm in diameter, the shape of the Oyster case and the cyclops that magnifies the date window by 2.5 times are the hallmarks of Rolex models. The Day Date is still the king of vintage watches as it offers a story, a reliable automatic movement and both the day and date.
